During our Kitchen Design Podcast we asked Louie Basso from Quooker UK, the world’s leading boiling tap manufacturer, “How long will a Quooker boil tap last?”… Here’s what he had to say.
Short answer? Look after it and a Quooker can last a lifetime. That was the view of Louie Basso from Quooker UK when I asked him on our Kitchen Design Podcast.
The secret is a bit of maintenance, and living in South Wales actually helps. Here’s what he told me.
- Soft water is your friend. Louie pointed out that the water round here is pretty soft, which is kind to the tank. He told us his own, up in Manchester where the water’s soft too, had never been touched and still worked like it did on day one.
- A full service every three to five years. Quooker recommends a full system service every three to five years on average. An engineer opens up the tank, cleans it out, changes any parts that need it and puts it all back together. In Louie’s words, you’ve then got a brand new system.
- There’s very little to wear out. He told us there’s pretty much only one moving part in the tank.
- The service won’t break the bank. In 2021 Louie quoted £160 plus VAT for that full service. He also said you could order a free self-service kit with the tools and instructions to do it yourself. Worth checking what’s on offer today.
Here’s the thing though… a kitchen appliance you can service back to as-new every few years is a rare thing.
