A Utility Room is becoming an essential part of any modern home. Now that the kitchen has evolved from being just a room for cooking, into a sociable space where family and friends gather, there’s more need for everyday (noisy) appliances to be housed in a room all of their own.

The idea behind Schüller’s Utility Furniture enables us, as designers, to create a perfectly planned area for washing, recycling and preparation and give you so much more than a ‘glorified storage room!’

The Never-Ending Story of Laundry..

Tall units are a great use of space in a kitchen and can also make the utility room a fantastic functional area. The cubby holes in the door of the laundry sorting unit allows you to separate the laundry straight into the baskets behind. Unfortunately, it doesn’t actually teach the kids how to put their clothes into them (we’re good, but we’re not that good)…although, the novelty of cubby holes should encourage them to help! The ingenious pull out shelf below the washing machine will mean less bending, which I’m sure your back will be thankful for, and handy shelves or drawers within the same unit make great storage for washing detergent and pegs etc.

Open, tall units are manufactured to accommodate the extra size, depth and weight of free-standing washing machines and tumble dryers. In fact, the shelves can hold up to 200kg of weight, which is heavier than a full grown Lion!!  Obviously, you may not own a lion (or any other species from the big cat family) but if you ever do…it’s reassuring to know that you can sit them on the shelf…without it collapsing!

Smooth Operator.

‘What could make ironing better than it already is?’…asked no one ever! But, maybe it could be more tolerable if you had space to just pull out the ironing board, do the deed, then hang the clothes straight onto the rail in the space next to you. A lower pull out laundry rack also allows you to dry smaller items or hang them straight after ironing – genius!

A Place for Everything…

Furniture specifically for utility rooms means that no space is wasted. A slimline tall unit is perfect for the ironing board, vacuum and broom, whilst the options for bottle crates, shoe storage and integrated drawers for cleaning products help create a multi-functional room which is not only practical, with everything to hand, but all hidden away tidily.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

We’re all aware how important it is to recycle but, it can take up a lot of space, be unsightly and a bit stinky if it’s not stored properly. Not a problem for Schüller’s Utility Range – they’ve created a base unit specifically designed for housing your recycling. It comes complete with two reinforced plastic bags, made for the job and is all hidden away from view to keep your room tidy and any unsavoury smells contained within!

Whilst it’s true that any kitchen units can be used to create a utility room, when it comes to free-standing appliances, the units need to be a different width and depth to those that house integrated. The Schüller Utility Collection has been especially designed for purpose so the storage solutions have been thoughtfully designed to quash any potential problems and ensure that everything will work together…seamlessly. So, whether you have a room bigger than most people’s kitchens or a more modest space, The Kitchen Experts at Artisan, will be able to design you a utility room to suit the available space, whilst incorporating the storage and appliances that will suit you and your family life.

The ‘Utility Room Collection’ is Schüller’s Nova Range which is a laminated matt finish door available in 7 colours.
