Kitchen Installation Week
Frequently Asked Questions
So, your brand new kitchen is about to arrive — and while the design decisions are (mostly) behind you, the big question now is: What actually happens during kitchen installation week?
This guide covers the most common questions we get from customers in the days leading up to their install. From timelines and team logistics to what you need to do (and what you don’t), here’s everything you need to know.
1. How long does a kitchen installation take?
It depends on the size and complexity of your kitchen, but most installations take between 5 and 10 working days. This typically includes:
-
Delivery and unloading
-
Unpacking and checking every item
-
Fitting cabinets and drawers
-
Aligning, levelling, and securing everything
-
Preparing for worktops (templating or fitting)
-
Connecting appliances (if applicable)
-
Final checks, adjustments and sign-off
Worktops that require templating (such as quartz or Corian) will be measured after the base units are installed and fitted around 7–10 working days later.
2. What do I need to do before installation starts?
We’ll let you know exactly what to expect, but here are the basics:
-
Clear the room – The space must be completely empty and ready to go, with any building or prep work finished.
-
Make space for delivery – Your kitchen will arrive in large, pre-assembled units, so we’ll need access to the room and space to manoeuvre.
-
Protect surrounding areas – While we take care to minimise mess, dust is inevitable. Cover adjoining rooms or valuables if needed.
3. Who will be in my house?
During kitchen installation week, you can expect to see:
-
Our kitchen fitting team — trained, professional and highly experienced
-
A worktop surveyor, if templating is required
-
Our project coordinator, who may visit to check progress
All of our fitters are respectful, tidy, and used to working in family homes. We aim to keep disruption to a minimum.
4. What if something is missing or damaged?
Occasionally, an item may be damaged in transit or arrive with a defect. If this happens, we’ll order a replacement immediately and keep you informed.
We’ll do everything we can to minimise delays and will never leave a job unfinished.
5. Will the room be left tidy each day?
Yes — our installers are instructed to tidy up at the end of each working day.
The room won’t be spotless until the final sign-off, but you won’t be left with mess or hazards between visits.
6. Can I make changes during installation?
Small changes may be possible in the early stages, but once units are fixed and appliances confirmed, alterations become difficult and costly.
This is why we focus so much on finalising everything before your kitchen goes into production.
7. Will I need to clear out the kitchen before you arrive?
Yes please. We’ll need the space completely empty — including cupboards, drawers, and worktops — before we start.
If we’re removing your old kitchen, make sure any appliances, food, and personal items are taken out in advance.
8. Will we still have water, gas and electricity?
During the installation, we may need to temporarily isolate certain services — particularly electricity, gas or water — to complete work safely and correctly.
But don’t worry: we’ll always do our best to reconnect everything before we leave each evening, so you’re not left without essentials overnight.
If anything needs to remain off overnight for safety reasons, we’ll explain why and give you as much notice as possible.
9. What happens when it’s finished?
Once installation is complete, we’ll do a full walk-through with you to ensure everything’s as it should be. This is your opportunity to:
-
Check that you’re 100% happy
-
Ask about any features or functions
-
Raise any snags or questions — we’ll address them quickly
If worktops or splashbacks are still to be fitted (following templating), we’ll schedule those dates with you and provide updates along the way.
10. Will we be able to stay in the house?
In most cases, yes — plenty of our customers stay at home during kitchen installation week.
That said, expect a bit of disruption. It might be noisy, dusty, and you probably won’t have access to a fully functioning kitchen (hence our guides on temporary kitchens and coping without a sink)
If you’re sensitive to noise, have small children, or work from home, it’s worth planning ahead — whether that’s working from a different room, staying with family for a few days, or just mentally preparing for a bit of organised chaos.
11. Do I need to be at home during the installation?
Not necessarily. Many customers choose to pop out during the day or continue their usual work routine while the installation is taking place.
As long as we have access to the property and a way to contact you if needed, we’re good to go.
That said, we do recommend being available at key points — especially during worktop templating (when positioning is confirmed) and the final walkthrough.
And if you’re working from home, maybe find a quiet space away from the action — it can get noisy.
12. Can I go on holiday while the kitchen is being installed?
Yes — as long as we can access the property and you’re available by phone or messaging, there’s no reason you can’t jet off while we crack on.
Just make sure you’ve signed off on the design, layout and appliance selections before you leave, and let us know who your emergency contact is in case anything needs an urgent decision.
13. Will the installation affect the rest of the house?
We’ll always aim to contain the disruption to the kitchen area, but any renovation project will cause a little mess and movement.
Expect some dust, increased foot traffic, and the occasional whirr of power tools.
We recommend:
-
Closing internal doors where possible
-
Covering furniture or nearby open-plan areas
-
Letting pets stay elsewhere if they’re easily stressed
14. Do I need to provide anything for the fitters?
Nope — they’ll arrive fully equipped. But if you’re happy to offer the occasional tea or biscuit, it’s always appreciated (and may even speed things up — we’re only human).
15. What time will the fitters arrive and how long will they be here?
Fitters usually arrive between 8:00–9:00am unless you’ve been told otherwise.
They’ll work a full day, typically finishing between 4:00–5:00pm. If anything changes, we’ll keep you in the loop.
16. Will the installation be noisy?
In short — yes. Expect drilling, sawing, hammering and the odd burst of lively banter from the team.
If you’re working from home, it might be a good idea to set up in a quieter room or pop out for a bit.
17. What should I do with my old kitchen?
If we’re removing your old kitchen as part of the job, we’ll take care of it. If you’re arranging removal separately or doing it yourself, it needs to be fully out of the way before installation day — the smoother the start, the smoother the finish.
18. What happens if something doesn’t fit or isn’t right?
Sometimes, even with all the planning in the world, things crop up. Rest assured, we’ll deal with any hiccups quickly and keep you informed.
Our priority is getting everything perfect, not just getting it done.
19. Can I still use my kitchen during the installation?
Usually not. Once we start, the area becomes a working site — no oven, no sink, and limited access.
We’ll do what we can to keep disruption minimal, but this is the perfect excuse for takeaways, picnics, or trying out that “temporary kitchen during renovation” setup you read about on our site 😉
20. What if I have pets?
Please keep pets safely out of the kitchen and ideally in another room.
With tools, open doors, and installers moving in and out, it’s not a safe space for curious paws — and we’d hate for anyone to make a dash for freedom mid-install!
21. Can you install flooring and tiles at the same time?
If we’re carrying out additional works like flooring or tiling, we’ll have discussed this beforehand and included it in your installation plan.
Just note that some flooring types (like floating floors) need to be fitted after the kitchen goes in — we’ll guide you through the right order if you’re unsure.
22. What happens if I spot something I’m not happy with?
Tell us straight away — we don’t want you living with anything less than perfect.
Whether it’s a small scratch or a big concern, we’ll put it right. We want you to love your kitchen, not just live with it.
