If you’re planning on updating your kitchen, one question that is likely to be top of your list is “How Much Will it Cost?”
If you’ve pitched this question to a kitchen designer or sales person then, chances are, you’ve heard answers like “How long is a piece of string?” or “How much do you want to spend?” (They just love answering questions with questions don’t they?)
Well.. The answer to your question “How much will it cost?” is…….(Drum roll)………. It Depends!
The cost of a German Kitchen really does depend on lots of factors which can change the price of your kitchen drastically… Factors such as the size of your room, the range of doors you choose, do you want laminate worktops or a solid surface such as quartz or Corian, do you need your fridge, oven and dishwasher to talk to each other or are you happy with entry level appliances? (Personally I don’t like the idea of my white goods talking about me behind my back… but that’s just me!)
All that said, I’m going to try and guide you through the quagmire that is Kitchen Pricing… Specifically Schüller kitchens as that is my area of expertise. This should hopefully give you a really good idea how much you can expect to pay for the German Kitchen of your dreams…
Kitchens come in many shapes and sizes but for this exercise I’m going to concentrate on the three of the most common layout configurations. These are the ‘L’ shape, the ‘G’ shape with a peninsula and the ‘L’ shape with a separate island. Whatever shape your kitchen is you should be able to relate to one of these layouts in terms of size of your room and types of units used.
For each layout I’ll show how different options such as worktops and appliances can affect the cost of your project to hopefully give you a clear idea of how much you can expect to pay for your Complete Schüller Kitchen.
L Shaped Kitchen
As a starting point I’ve put together a very functional 11 unit kitchen in a simple ‘L’ shape layout.
The design comprises of the following AEG Mastery Range appliances:
1 x Integrated Fridge Freezer
1 x Single Pyrolytic Oven, 1 x Induction Hob
1 x Chimney Hood
1 x Dishwasher.
Sink and Tap
The chart below shows complete prices for this ‘L’ shape kitchen with various appliance, worktop and price group options.
G Shaped Kitchen
As a mid-level kitchen layout I’ve put together a very popular design consisting of 18 units on 3 walls with a Peninsula Breakfast Bar.
1 x Integrated Fridge Freezer,
1 x Single Pyrolytic Oven,
1 x Compact Combi Microwave Oven,
1 x Induction Hob,
1 x Integrated Hood and
1 x Dishwasher.
A sink and tap are also included.
The chart below shows complete prices for this ‘G’ shape kitchen with various appliance, worktop and price group options.
L Shaped Kitchen + Island
With more families extending their homes to create large kitchen / living spaces and islands being the first thing on many peoples wish lists, this type of layout is becoming increasingly popular.
For this design I’ve included the following BORA & AEG Mastery Range appliances:
1 x Tall Integrated Fridge
1 x Tall Integrated Freezer
1 x Single Pyrolytic Oven
1 x Compact Combi Microwave Oven
1 x Warming Drawer
1 x BORA Induction Hob
1 x Dishwasher
Sink & Tap
The chart below shows complete prices for this Island kitchen layout with various appliance, worktop and price group options.
As you can see, changing worktops, appliances and door range can make a big difference to the price of your kitchen. Even though the design has stayed the same, in the case of the ‘L’ shape kitchen, changing the appliances, worktops and door range has almost doubled the cost of the kitchen.
There are, of course, many door, worktop and appliance options in between these extremes which is why it’s super important that you let your designer know how much you want to spend on your kitchen so that they can advise you on what options are the best fit for your budget.
